Purpose
The Vote-Ready Victoria Project is a volunteer civic initiative to increase voter turnout by providing an overview of each incumbent's record so that Victorians can more conveniently cast an informed vote.
The site creator, John Farquharson, is a long time Victoria voter who knocked on doors in 2022 for several Council candidates, across the political spectrum.
VoteReadyVictoria will continue with regular updates on non-unanimous votes of public interest until October 2030 to keep you informed on the new city council!
Format
Click on Browse Topics in the menu up top to see the key votes in each of these categories.
On the pages that appear, a Motion Summary is provided for each vote. The Council Vote Breakdown then shows who voted in favour and opposed.
The Reasons For and Reasons Against provide summaries of the why of their vote (i.e., councillor(s) “reasoned”, “believed”, “argued”, etc.). These overviews help to surface the thinking and underlying beliefs supporting and opposed councillors thought from in deciding how to vote. It’s this incumbent councillor reasoning that will probably be of greatest value to a voter in deciding which incumbent to vote for in October.
Finally, Sources & Media, link the reader to a related media source or two and the City Council Meeting Dashboard which provides a web link to the agenda and video of related council discussion.
AI was used to summarize this data pulled from city council records and local media articles which was then human verified for accuracy.
If you find any faulty data or links please let me know at info@votereadyvictoria.ca so that it can be fixed. Thanks!
If you’d like to help cover the cost of keeping the website online, any support is appreciated.
